What is the Map of Consciousness?

The Map of Consciousness is a tool created by David Hawkins that provides a visual representation of emotional and psychological states. These states reflect how individuals evaluate and respond to:

  • Internal experiences: such as thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations
  • External experiences: including situations, relationships, and environments.

Each level on the map corresponds to a specific state of being, ranging from levels like shame and guilt to love, joy, and enlightenment. These energies represent the energy of our consciousness and reflect how we understand and interact with the world.

What is Consciousness?

In the context of the Map of Consciousness, consciousness refers to our understanding of and response to:

  • Internal experiences: thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations
  • External experiences: situations, relationships, and environment.

Consciousness refers to the capacity to observe and evaluate these experiences and make intentional choices in response. It is both a state of understanding and the ability to shift one’s perspective and energy through insight and action.

Why is the Map of Consciousness useful?

When we identify the connection between how we think, feel, and act, we can better understand how our current level of consciousness shapes our life—and how intentional shifts in how we view our experiences can lead to personal transformation and greater life satisfaction.
